iCare is a non-profit organization that was established in July of 2008 by Diana Hartley. iCare was born out of the willingness to show care, compassion and comfort to a family who was dealing with the life altering diagnosis of their newborn son. First and foremost iCare was created to repay others who have helped Diana. Being a military wife she has had her share of generous instances which made her a believer in pay it forward.
In 2010, her husband was medically retired from Active duty from the United States Army. He was disabled in Iraq, and is registered as a wounded warrior. Because of the trauma, a spine fusion was performed on 2 levels. There were major complications, after the the artificial disc filler leaked out, shearing off spinal nerves. This left him in a wheelchair for 2 years, progressing to a walker, then cane, and now can walk unassisted most days by the grace of God. During this trial in life, The Hartley family of 6 was shown more compassion, and received incredible help! U-Haul donated and installed a hitch, to carry John's wheelchair. They also donated a small trailer rental for the move back to Nevada. Rent-a-center donated beds to sleep on, after the movers left with their belongings, and the hotel rooms were booked. A local veterans group provided food for the road. Another group collected $500 cash for our family. All wonderful things that I will never forget, and forever pay forward throughout my life.
Since then, iCare has gone on to help a total of 11 families with a total of over $25,000 in donations, and counting.
Originally iCare was started to help families who were fighting insurmountable odds at covering their child's overwhelming medical needs. Recently iCare has expanded its reach and is open to helping any family that needs it.
